162nd Birth Anniversary of Gen. Paciano Rizal to be observed


Laguna – The 162nd Birth Anniversary of Gen. Paciano Rizal will be commemorated on March 9, 2013, 8:00 a.m. at the Gen. Paciano Rizal Shrine in Los Banos City, Laguna.

The holy mass will be officiated by Rev. Fr. Zaldy Fortuno of the Immaculate Conception Parish Church while flag-raising and wreath laying rites will be managed by the Philippine National Police.

Floral offering rites will be led by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Exec. Dir. Ludovico D. Badoy, representative from the Provincial Government of Laguna, Mr. Peter Jaynul Uckung, Division Chief, History Arts and Culture LTCATO, Laguna Vice-Mayor Josephine H. Sumangil-Evangelista, descendants of Gen. Paciano Rizal, Department of Education - Division of Laguna representatives Dr. Marites A. Ibañez and Dr. Esmeralda E. De Castro and University of the Philippines – Los Baños, Dr. Isabel C. Mendoza.

Vice-Mayor Evangelista will give the welcome remarks in behalf of Mayor Anthony F. Genuino, Prof. Marcelino Macapinlac, Jr., Director of the Institutional Research and Academic Development Office of St. Scholastica’s College, Manila will give a brief lecture on the life and contributions of Gen. Paciano Rizal to Philippine history. Mr. Jose Rizal Lopez, will give the response on the honors bestowed to Gen. Paciano Rizal.  Paciano Rizal Elementary Schools in Bay and Los Baños will provide intermission numbers.  

Certificates of Recognition will be given to deserving students from the Gen. Paciano Rizal Elementary Schools in Bay and in Los Baños by the descendants of the General.  

The NHCP is a national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine historical heritage through research, information dissemination, conservation, including the marking of historic sites and structures, and the maintenance and administration of national shrines and landmarks.
