NHCP unveils the Clemencia Castelo Lopez historical marker


BALAYAN, BATANGAS ─ The National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) led by its Chair Dr. Maria Serena I. Diokno, unveils on Friday, 8 February 2013, the historical marker  “Clemencia Castelo Lopez” at the Ancestral House of the Lopezes in Balayan, Batangas. The marker states:

 (1872-1963)


ISINILANG SA BALAYAN, BATANGAS, 23 NOBYEMBRE 1872. KASAMA ANG KAPATID NA SI SIXTO, NAGTUNGO SA ESTADOS UNIDOS BILANG PANAUHIN NG AMERICAN ANTI-IMPERIALIST LEAGUE, 1902-1903. NANAWAGAN KAY PANGULONG THEODORE ROOSEVELT PARA SA PAGPAPALAYA NG KANYANG MGA KAPATID AT PAGSALUNGAT SA HINDI MAKATARUNGANG PAGDAKIP SA MGA ITO, MARSO 1902. NAGBIGAY NG TESTIMONYA SA SENADO NG ESTADOS UNIDOS UPANG TUTULAN ANG PAGSAKOP SA PILIPINAS, 15 MARSO 1902. NAGTALUMPATI SA PULONG NG NEW ENGLAND WOMEN SUFFRAGE ASSOCIATION, 29 MAYO 1902. BUMALIK SA PILIPINAS, 1904. ISA SA MGA NANGUNA SA PAGTATAG NG ASOCIACION FEMINISTA FILIPINA, 30 HUNYO 1905. TAGAPAGTAGUYOD NG  KARAPATAN NG MGA KABABAIHAN SA PILIPINAS. YUMAO, 4 HUNYO 1963.


The marker will be officially turned over to Mr. Aquiles Lopez. Ms. Victoria Lopez and Mrs. Gina C. Batuhan, Chief of Historic Sites and Education Division, NHCP will stand as witnesses during the signing of the Certificate of Transfer.


The NHCP is the national government agency mandated to promote and preserve Philippine history and heritage through research, information dissemination, conservation, including the marking of historic sites and structures, and the maintenance and administration of national shrines, monuments and landmarks.
